Style with Tia : A Koi Mermaid

Fashion is really something that we each make our own choices about. We all have our own unique opinions on it. It is these opinions that help us to be able to create unique avatars, looks , and characters within Second Life.

In the past I know that I have had a post with a mermaid. But this is a style card post. Which is different than the last post I did where I did a short role play example along with a picture of a mermaid character. I put together this look for the mermaid party that happened at Never Never Land on monday.

Styling With Soka (3): Dryad

It is well past time for me to do another of these, and so I present you another non-human version of myself: My Dryad.  The newest, but I had to, because I really love, love, love how this one turned out.  Take a look:

I didn't want green skin or just tattoos, I wanted a dryad who looked like she stepped out of her tree, but spent the rest of her time living within it's trunk.  To that end, the mesh earth elemental avatar by Kaelin Westland was fantastic: eventually, I want to get all of her elementals.  Just looking at them feeds my creativity to see what I can do with them, make them characters of their own.  For the most part, being mesh, the body is default, but minor changes to size, fat, and head can all be done by editing your avatar's underlying shape, so I shifted mine just a little to fit how I wanted.  Honestly, it probably makes little difference, and the avatar is just beautifully done and textured.  It includes a walker, the leaves on the hands and shoulders, and the eyes, a lovely green that I couldn't beat for fitting the avi with anything I found in the market.  Yes, the branches coming out of her head are part, too.

Being who I am, I could not resist adding some personality... and clothes.  Even if I know she's made out of rock and bark, who I am just doesn't hold to running around nude easily.  You just have to be careful because, being mesh, clothing layers won't work and most mesh clothing won't look correct on the avatar, especially as you can't use an alpha - the alpha is already hiding your real body.  All the same, I found some beautiful clothes with prims just how I want, including the outfit in the picture, which has those beautifully sculpted wings.  For the hair, I decided early on I wanted a long, thick braid, and the one I found works perfectly! All the details are below.

Mesh Avatar: KK Fantasy: Earth Elemental
Outfit: ThatChick : Tiger Lily Fae (Includes the flowers on the right said of her face, looking at the picture)
Hair Wreath: ~Mystic Sky~ : Autumn Hair Wreath

Styling with Soka (2)

Tulsi - RP Character

Tulsi is, quite obviously, a faun.  She is a very young adult, so still coming into her own.  As shapes go, she's on the shorter, rounder side, and I gave her big, innocent, doe-like eyes.  I was honestly trying to go with what would make a healthy, viable creature in the wild - a good, solid body, and nothing too big or too small.  I may have went a tad on the short side with her, but, when you are an herbivore (partially), being smaller than what is behind you can work to your advantage.  Being a creature of nature, she is not too worried about personal appearance, her hair is a bit on the wild side and she's really not overly concerned with wrapping herself in all kinds of cloth and keeping covered: she covers what she covers mainly because it is what outsiders to the herd tend to be most shocked if she doesn't cover it.

Now, the complete faun avatar I originally bought is a fine set and makes for a gorgeous faun... I just had to mess with it a little bit, give Tulsi some character and originality.  To that end, the hair, shape, and tail I used did not come with the original set, and she is pictured here in a different outfit from the kit default, though I kept that one, too.  All the information follows.

Styling with Soka (1)

In an article a bit ago, Tia mentioned people and designing avatars around role play concepts.  Yeah, I would be one of those people.  For a little style variety, I'm going to be offering some of my own avis up for consideration.

When getting back into SL, I decided I wanted a change of style, so I made myself into an elf.  No specific character, but the shape, design, and clothes were all pictured with the concept in my mind of what would be *my* elf.  So below is one of my favorite outfits I made for her.

Outfit: Shaiya by Elvenbreath
Necklace: Caged Heart Necklace - Rope Chain from KaiAna
Ears: Caverna Obscura Elven Ears Sculpted
Feet: Similar Bare Feet
Skin: Heartsick Enchant Rapture (Nude, Mid-Cleavage, Freckles)
Shape: Self-made
Hair: Truth Bree - Mahogany
Eyes: *Shack* Reflections Eyes - Green

Feeling Slightly Villainous

Sometimes something catches your eye while your bouncing from place to place. For me this silk did it. I HAD to have it.The only thing was finding someone to match up with me at the Lucky Fortune Machine that they have out at Shack >.<. Am sure that there are a lot of you that can understand and relate to that. Anyways here's a picture in my new silk and a list of how to look just like me. (Though it is more fun to look like yourself, if there's something you like in the picture then you can find it yourself)

some thoughts on rp

Role playing is one of the important factors when it comes to participation in second life. You're someone you're not, and can be nearly anything that you imagine. So it would go to pot if you didn't try to script out your character as a separate entity of yourself.

How do you create a character? As we've looked at in the past, you create a unique appearance. You want to have a look that people will know is you. They will become accustomed to you looking a certain way, physically if not fashionably. This is your character's base.

Why is your look your base? What you look like and what you wear is what gives you your basic items to write about. If you do not carry a dagger, for example, how can you claim to fight with one? If you're not wearing a dress, how can you get tangled in it? These are simply things to think about. Of course it is possible to have pockets, bu t you need to keep their contents somewhat realistic.

The other things that you're going to want to think about when working on establishing your character is repeat actions. These actions are things that people will recognize and come to expect from your character. Does your character chew her lip while he watches the fire? Does she twist her hair in her fingers as she thinks? Does she have a sweet or sour disposition?

It's all things to think about. It can help make you a more appealing rp partner, as it will  show people that there is more depth to you than just being a digital barbie doll. You want your character to have aspirations and goals. These are what help you create a point of interest for yourself.

When I first re-arrived in the village my character could be found in the SZ now and then nibbling on flowers. She progressed to eating a snack we have since come to call "cricket crunchies", and  I even got them mermaid approved through rp. She also has a tendency to share fruit, which she has accessories displaying, to other characters. When she doesn't have them equipped, I improvise ways to get access to things. Many folk see me in SZ frequently, so it should come as no surprise that I would hide fruit and things behind the cushions there.

Ok, well that's enough babbling out of me. But just so you can see what I mean am including a picture and a bit of one sided rp. When starting an interaction, sometimes it can seem like you're playing by yourself, but don't be afraid to play. Having fun is the key element to enjoying your time. Here ya go.

Tiamet swims around the cavern, her tail flipping as she circles a pillar deciding that for a moment she can rest.  Her form sinks slightly her elbows coming to rest on the top of the pillar as her eyes stare at her surroundings lazily, a slightly bored expression on her face. The slight movement of the water causes her hair to sway around her face, the crown resting on top of it keeping most of it in place. She watches the bubbles escaping the plants, and playfully tries to let a bubble escape from her own mouth, and with a bit of effort she manages one pathetic bubble which slowly disappears up into the caverns darkness above.

Play like the rules never matter. ~ Tiamet ~
